Will there be misunderstandings and pining?? OMG, it's bee-yewtee-ful in my head! Brendon and Spencer work at the university cafeteria, less than really good friends but definitely more than just work collegues. It's kind of an awkward transition stage, and Brendon definitely wants Spencer to be his friend because Spencer is cool and hilariously funny when he mocks some of the pretentious students they have to serve.
Jon is Brendon's roomate (who drags in cats and such), and Ryan just came back from a year spent in Paris, which is why Brendon hasn't seen him around. Spencer's throwing a welcome-back party for Ryan, and Brendon and Ryan end up hitting it off to the almost-point of kissing. Because, well, Ryan has these soft curls that sort of brush his neck, and he spent a year in Paris, and seriously, how awesome is that?
Only that on Monday, the break is over and university starts again, and Brendon finds out that the tutorial to a creative writing course he takes more out of curiosity (he sucks at writing lyrics, so, well, maybe that'll help) is taught by none other than Ryan Ross, senior student finishing up his Master's degree. Which, y'know, awkward much?
And it really doesn't help that Jon has taken a liking to Spencer and Brendon still has this plan of making Spencer his fabulous friend. It seems to be kind of working, even, because Spencer grins at him a lot and doesn't immediately squirm away when Brendon tries hugging him. It's just that... Well. Ryan moved in with Spencer when he returned, and Brendon doesn't quite know how to act around someone who's responsible for a third of his grade when they're kind of hanging out watching tv (even though it's a course he doesn't reallyreally need, but still).
Also around someone he, uh, might possibly have a slight crush on.
Cue in lots of pining, some mocking of university cafeteria food, the Academy guys in their appartment next to Spencer and Ryan's, Brendon sometimes also working at Gerard's slightly obscure record store which sells indie music, some holiday sadness because Brendon really kind of misses his family, and, and, and.
